The Kia Sorento PHEV has the ability to drive using electric power only. In fact it can go as far as 30 miles without having to use the petrol engine. The intelligent plug-in hybrid technology allows you to drive longer distances whilst still reducing your overall running costs and CO2 emissions. The Sorento PHEV also utilises regenerative braking technology which means the battery is recharged under braking which further improves driving range and maximises efficiency.
The Plug-in hybrid technology present in the Sorento PHEV provides its driver with a low-emission yet powerful driving experience. The 1.6-litre T-GDi petrol engine is coupled with an electric motor which is powered by a high-voltage 13.8 kWh battery. This, together with the automatic transmission with a shift-by-wire rotary dial gear selector, all combine to effortless enjoyment for its driver and passengers.
The Sorento PHEV comes equipped with a highly intelligent all-wheel drive system which automatically distributes torque and traction to each wheel. This provides traction to each individual wheel, thus providing the vehicle with more grip, meaning rough terrain and difficult driving surfaces are no problem for the Sorento PHEV. Terrain Mode Select (TMS) also lets you adapt your drive at the touch of a button. There are a whole host of Drive Modes and Terrain Modes.
Although the Sorento PHEV is a large spacious SUV it does boast many sporty credentials. Paddle shifters provide super quick gear changes and the 1.6-litre T-GDi Plug-in Hybrid engine produces 261bhp which is more than enough power to enjoy a sporty driving experience.
Opt for the grade '4' model and you'll be able to enjoy the amazing Head-Up Display (HUD). It projects driving-related information onto the windscreen so there's no need to ever take your eyes off the road. In addition to the HUD mood lighting helps to create the perfect in-cabin atmosphere. These two features really do improve the enjoyment of every drive.
Never worry again about having to open the boot with your hands full. Grades '3' and '4' come with a height adjustable Smart Power Tailgate. Other great features present in the Sorento PHEV include a Bose premium sound system which comes with 12 speakers and an external amplifier.
This extremely important safety feature detects vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists ahead on the road. It works by evaluating both radar and camera data from the vehicle, analysing information about pedestrians crossing the road, cyclists and other cars which helps to reduce the risk of a collision. The Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) system also helps avoid a collision when making a right turn at a junction. The intelligent system estimates whether there's a risk of a collision and if it deems there is a risk of a collision a warning signal will appear on the instrument cluster and maximum braking power is applied.
The system allows the Sorento PHEV to effortlessly cruise whilst maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front. The driver sets a desired speed and the SCC system computes the position and speed of the vehicle ahead by using the front radar and front view camera and keeps a safe distance between both vehicles. As the vehicle in front accelerates and slows down, so does the Sorento PHEV.
Those who go for grade '4' will benefit from a great safety feature called Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM). Side cameras allow you the driver to see concealed vehicles usually hidden in your blind spot when changing lanes. Indicate left or right and a view of the road in your blind spot will appear on the instrument cluster.
This amazing system uses a camera to read speed limit signs along the road you're traveling on. Once the ISLA system has recognised and read a speed limit sign it displays the speed next to the speedometer and also on the navigation screen. You then have the option of setting your speed to the signaled speed limit or you can override it.
